Alex Young
Born in China, Alex came to the United States in 1959. An architect by profession and without formal art training, Alex uses the theory of “learning by doing” which he acquired while attending Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, California. Since 1973, Alex has successfully applied that theory.
Alex has done many commissioned works, notably including the Western Governors’ Association, and Seattle’s Museum of Flight. Alex’s watercolors are in the permanent collections of the Marine Corps Historical Museum in Washington, D.C. U.S. Air Force, Pemco Financial Center, Seattle Public Library, the City of Yashiro, Japan, and many distinguished private collections.
Alex’s paintings “Chum Salmon” and “Winter Visitors” were selected for the 1993 Washington State Salmon Stamp and the 1997 Washington State Duck Stamp, respectively. His annual Washington State Ferries posters have become popular collector’s prints since 1984.
Alex and his family reside in Tumwater, Washington.
